Judith Kupermann Design Selectedto Create Custom Jewelry for Honorees and Guests to Benefit the Wayúu Taya Foundation
New YorkMay 30, 2003Jewelry designer Judith Kupermann has been selected by The Wayúu Taya Foundation to design custom-made jewelry for the Foundations first benefit dinner to be held June 23rd at Butter restaurant. The non-profit foundation, which takes its name from the Wayúu (translation: I am indigenous) group provides essential aid and support to the indigenous people struggling to survive in Latin America. The Wayúu Taya Foundation will honor fashion designer Carolina Herrera and president of Ford Models, Inc Katie Ford, for their ongoing commitment and support to the people of Latin America. The Wayúu Taya Foundations founder, model and actress Patricia Velasquez, will co-host the event along with Iman and Molly Simms.
Ms. Kupermann has custom designed a Wayúu Taya necklace which is inspired by The Foundations logo, an exotic sun symbol. A high carat yellow gold necklace ornamented with a jewel will be presented to the honorees at the Wayúu Taya award ceremony. Additionally, the necklaces will be presented as gifts to the event co-hosts in high karat gold and to dinner attendees in sterling silver.
I have always been interested in working with very natural looking stones in order to make unique, custom jewelry much of which is found in Latin America,
explained the designer. I feel contributing to The Wayúu Taya Foundation is a great opportunity to use my own talents to bring exposureand subsequently more fundraisingto the indigenous people who live there.
Co-host and Wayúu Taya Founder Patricia Velasquez added, We are thrilled to partner with Judith Kupermann in such a meaningful and symbolic way. Her approach to jewelry design and interpretation of our symbol perfectly complement the spirit of the Wayúu Taya Foundation. She continues, We look forward to presenting her designs to our guests and honorees at the event and to wearing them ourselves.
